Economize Usage of Ink with HP Envy 4520

Economize Usage of Ink with HP Envy 4520 You might think it’s no big deal or you might not even realize the power in the ability of your HP Envy 4520. Getting print jobs done with very minimal cost and an opportunity to help save the environment is what I call ‘Responsible Printing’.

I always keep in mind that money doesn’t grow on trees. That is why, aside from buying a cheaper but quality-assured ink for my printer, I often look for other means where I can further my savings. Then I learned about economizing usage of HP toners or ink.

I encourage you to read on to learn some helpful tips and tricks on how to apply this. The following are:

  1. When a low toner warning comes up, think twice before changing your cartridge. Many printers are designed to display a low toner warning even when the cartridge still has 25% of its ink left. Do not be too inclined to instantly heed this warning as this estimate can still allow you to print up to 400 – 500 extra pages using the same cartridge. It is safe to store one or two cartridges as a backup material. But you can still use up your current ink cartridge until it finally runs out to ensure you are getting the most use out of your cartridge possible. Your cue to replacing your ink is when your pages become faded. So, if this happens, print your document by piecemeal so as not to waste paper, too.
  2. Reduce the output resolution on your printer. Just like the draft mode of an inkjet printer, the setting of the output resolution of your HP Envy 4520 is adjustable. Printing at a lower resolution allows the printer to apply less ink. So, for example, if you are simply going to print a document with pure text, try resetting your printer from 600 dots per inch (dpi) or 1200 dpi to 300 dpi. You will probably see an insignificant difference in the print quality. You will also notice that the printer produces faster prints in a lesser time to produce ink on the page.
  3. Set the printer to print black only. Setting your printer to ‘black only’ will ensure that the printer only uses a small amount of color ink to produce a black image. Your printer may currently be configuring the black ink as much as 30% from the color cartridge. Some other HP printers have a toner saver setting as an added feature and if this is initiated, a considerable amount of toner can be spared during the life of the toner cartridge.
  4. Buy the standard capacity HP laser toner or ink. Getting a genuine toner for your HP Envy 4520 may be the most clever thing to do. But apparently, we all have our ingenuity in finding means to make both ends meet – achieving a quality output using the standard capacity cartridges. Some printers manage to accept a high capacity version of the toner. Anyhow, non-genuine or compatible HP ink and toner come with the same label of correct toners because these are manufactured third party manufacturers to ISO standard thereby giving you the same quality results as the original brand. These are more readily available in the market with a considerably low price cutting your cost into half. Afterall, nobody wants a compromised output.
So, before you head on to the market and take out your wallet, take the above factor combinations into consideration so that your printing experience can become more cost effective. These helpful tips have got you covered. Be a smart buyer and seek out incentive deals when buying your HP Envy 4520.

  • This is the printer I have at home and with four college students all using it to print school documents, we were going through ink like crazy. I’ll make sure to try some of these steps as ink can get very expensive very quickly!
